Nail of the Day: My Favorite Polish of All Timezz

The year of 2012 has commenced, and with the birth of this new year, I decided also to revive this long-dead blog. I'm excited! :) My first post, as you can see, is a nail of the day featuring one of, if not my absolute, favorite nail polish of all time. It's an unorthodox choice, probably, but it's an incredible one too. Hehe, without further ado, I present to you Orly's Velvet Rope.

Here, I have 3 coats on, though in two coats, full opacity is achieved. Over it, I have INM's Out the Door top coat which adds just a bit of shine. The next few pictures are so pretty to me and just highlight the smooth, glittery character of the polish. What. a. champ, this one.

Overall, though it's sparkly, it's not a pain to take off. The application is very smooth and makes for a fast nail polish job! As for the Orly brush, I love it. The rubber handle makes it easy to open up and the brush itself is long yet thin, creating even strokes that cover the surface of the nail effortlessly. I'm in love with this babe.

All righty. Tata for now. <3

I'm burning up, burning up for you, baby!

Okay, okay. I will admit it, the weather right now is horrid. The wind is whipping its breeze back and forth in such a way that only Willow Smith could teach. The crisp, biting gusts suffocate the mere hopes of a burning autumn. It's all rather crazy. Alas, I'll deal with it - I can make my own autumn through clothes. Now, I realize my choices aren't necessarily made for fall weather, but it is the color palette rather than the sleeve lengths which inspired this look. The shirt hangs effortlessly, with a floral design to kill. The punchy oranges mimic the blowing leaves that scatter lawns. What's even more gorgeous is its contrast from the dark washed denim which sits low-rise. Grundge-inspired holes in the legs give the outfit an overall funky-feel. Meanwhile, the accessories, though separate from the chosen blouse + jeans, are also reminiscent of autumn's hues... The glowing, tangerine stone on the cocktail ring, the soft, yellow washes of color that span the scarf, the simple, yet complementary moccasins which dress down any look - it's all beautiful. I'm in love (:

P.S. I missed blogging.
P.S.S. More to come (: <3

I need some (online) retail therapy...

What's crack-a-lackin', fashion bloggers?

Lately everyone's been talking about spring shopping ... I didn't get it. I mean, I'm actually satisfied with the clothes I have now. I'm not gonna say I wouldn't buy any more (because seriously, can you ever have enough clothes?), but I'm also really content with my wardrobe right now.

...Now, this is unusual for me. I live for clothes, fashion, what have you. And I think I've just realized now why I don't want spring clothes. It's because everyone's associating spring clothes with Forever 21, with Charlotte Russe, with H&M. There's nothing wrong with these stores; I used to shop at these stores exclusively. However, I don't wanna shop where everyone else shops. Who would?

Therefore, I've come to a conclusion: ONLINE IS THE WAY TO GO. Below will be some stores I love going to & then a wish list from one of my fave online stores at the moment.

asos.com

I love ASOS. The quality is to die for, the styles are updated, and the variety is endless. Also, the clothes are pictured on models, so you can tell if something will look awkward or not. ASOS will not leave curvy girls hanging. They have clothes for thicker women, for girls who are pregnant and for super petite ladies. I think that's important. ASOS for the win! ...btw, it's super trendy but also mixes in classics. Tres chic. Note: the site is European-based.

Price range: Urban Outfitters / Anthropologie

revolveclothing.com
Revolve is soo glam. I mean, super glam. If you want designer pieces for a decent price, please visit this site! The great thing about Revolve is that they're not just one style. I know some may not like that Euro style that's maybe more sophisticated. In that case, ASOS may not work for them. However, Revolve has street threads, glamorous looks, hippie-boho chic... I mean everything. They even have a feature that shows you what people are wearing in different areas of the country. I love it!

Price range
: Between $100 & $500...somewhere between Macy's & Bloomingdales.

pinkice.com
Pink Ice is definitely bohemian-rocker, very Forever 21 meets House of Harlow. I love their prices and their boldness. The company seems very rooted in their values, and I notice that their style doesn't change drastically season to season. If you're looking for something cute you saw last summer, maybe you won't find the exact same shirt, but you'll find something very similar. I love this distinctness about them. Check it out, for sure. Plus, they're jeans are killa!

Price range: H&M... but they're jeans are more like Buckle.

papayaclothing.com
A couple of you may have Papaya in your malls, but I haven't seen any this side of the Mason-Dixon line. You know what I love about Papaya? Papaya is for the every girl. People say stuff like, 'this is for the every man' and I think that's what Papaya is for teen girls. It's very affordable, it's cute; it's casual. It's things that high-school or college chicas can wear to school. I will admit, I don't love everything from the store. Some of it is a bit tacky looking; very 'young'. But, I do like a lot of it and I know young adults will too.

Price range: Forever 21

topshop.com
TopShop was a store only available in the U.K. I remember having to do dollar conversions just to prepare a mental numbers list of the total. Then, they made one in NYC...another reason I needed to be in the Big Apple. I love Top Shop. It's Urban Outfitters' older, more sophisticated sister. It's very London, with touches of masculinity and straight up dapper-ness. I don't think that's a word, but you catch my drift. I love TopShop and have for a long time.

Price range
: Lower-end Bloomingdales, high-end Urban Outfitters

Okay, now onto my wishlist from one of my favorite online stores... Lulu's!!! <3
I don't need to say much about them because the clothes will speak for themselves.

I love this top. It's summer-y because of its floaty, baby-doll shape, yet the color makes it very fall. Basically, this blouse is very easy to transition from season to season. The lace decolletage piece makes it very feminine and fragile. I like this a lot. $28

This tank seems very simple, and that's because it's meant to be. It doesn't have a racerback, it doesn't have graphics in the front...just a simple silk pocket near the bust and a sheer, loose feel - perfect for the blistering heat. You can easily dress this up or down. Love. $35

I love this top! It's very casual, yet it doesn't try too hard to be. The colors are a beaut., very complementary to darker skin tones. Also, the nature of the halter shape gives you that nice triangle effect - nice, strong shoulders as a foundation for a thinner torso. The tiered, rough seams are also a nice detail. $30

This top screams 'ethnic'. I love that! The rich, brick-red color is beautiful on fair as well as deep hues. Also, the intricate patterns are absolutely stunning! $38

This is one of those blouses where all you have to do is wear dark denim and you look dressed up. I don't care whether you wear nice little sandals or full on heels, you'll look great. The roses at the neck give it that dressy feel while the shape is loose enough for you to breathe. Still, it hugs you nicely. $46

Wow, I'm very impressed by this top. At first glance it looks like a plain, nude, off-the-shoulder top. If you look closer, though, you'll see sequins, a sheer back, and complex geometric patterns. I love this. It's soo comfortable, yet it's quietly chic. Fave. $33

I admit, if you're scrappy looking, this will look scrappy on you...very dumpster. However, if you're put-together, you'll look incredibly glam. This is such a carefree shirt...note to self, I think I'm liking that style this season. Anyway, the colors are spicy chocolates, mustards and maroons - gorgeous on sunkissed skin. I freakin' want this top in my closet right now. Now. $28

This is California head-to-toe. Or back to front, I should say. The watercolor design is a print I saw a couple of seasons ago, but if I had say, it would never go out of style. What I love more is that this is a t-shirt! I don't own any t-shirts that aren't either A) graphic tees or B) class t-shirts. I'm feelin' this 70s vibe. It's tie-die with a twist. $26

Lol, this feels like I'm in the Spanish Inquisition or something. It's just one of those tops. I don't even have anything to say. It's beautiful. That's it. $37

THIS JACKET. I have no words. From the ruched, broad shoulders to the lace material, I feel like I'm straight out of a Madonna video. The zipper adds a bit of a modern spin to it and keeps it a bit futuristic. It's fab, though. I mean, honestly. Where can you find a jacket like this? There is no replica. That's the marking of a one-of-a-kind piece. If you know you'll never see a gem like this again, make sure to pick it up. I love. $30

As you can tell, it's the basic pieces with interesting shapes that are juicin' me up. I love the waterfall effect and the folded up sleeves. It's, again, so effortlessly glam. Plus, the shape of the shirt skims over curvy hips like mine. Definite plus. $24

If this isn't the most diva thing I've ever seen, I don't know what is. The deep, charcoal color adds a sophistication. Yet, when paired with the noire leopard detail & intermittent silver sparkles, it takes it to another level. Seriously chic. I'll admit, it is very fall/winter. I don't care though. It's also love at first sight. $29

I know for a while the Alexander Wang masculine vests were popular, but now the jean-jacket trend (circa 90s) is making its way back to the runway. I'm actually likin' it. This is no exception; it's very casual and vibratory. $68

I'm not sure I completely bought the whole motorcycle jacket trend, but now I'm becoming more convinced of it. I like the studded lapels; they add an extra flair. Plus, it's not straight up grundge - more of a sophisticated Harley look. I'm likin' it. $49

Again, I'm liking the resurrection of denim this season. This dark piece, cuffed on the model, is extremely versatile and can seriously work with anything. Think of the possibilities: collar up, sleeves down, buttoned up, paired with a dress, paired with a white tee, atop a dressy blouse...etc. It goes on and on. I need one of these. $40

I actually really like this skirt...it's different. The red stripe gives the steel gray skirt that needed pop of color. Also, the pleats make it very school-girl-esque...a little too innocent. That's why the rouge zipper is imperative..the edginess adds dimension to the otherwise boring skirt. As for the shape, it's fairly complementary. It stops a couple inches above the knee, giving you that polished and un-skanky look. It's a winner. $44

So apparently this doubles as a tube top? Let's stick with the skirt look. I love the pattern - extremely nautical - as well as the hip-hugging shape. It's very stretchy and would dress up a basic white scoop neck in a second! $19

Hello, flappers! This skirt transports you back to the twenties with its black fringe which sways as you walk. It's a nice alternative to a classic pencil skirt and is subtly bold - perfect for those new to fashion trends. $35

I love, I love, I love. Basic distressed jeans. How can you go wrong? $40

These really only work on petite, thin women like Kelly Ripa, but I love them all the same. It's a modern twist on the Hammer Pants, which I adore. The material is lustrous and honestly, screams glam. Beware, do not put these on if you're not the aforementioned body type - it really does only work on the Kelly Ripa, Shenae Grimes frame. $27

Everyone needs a basic, white, cuffed short in their wardrobe. It makes tan or dark legs look glorious and gives you that summery feel. It's perfect. Not much more I can say on that one. ;) $44

I feel like I'm about to go on a safari with these bermuda's...and rightly so. The khaki color along with the cafe belt give it a business meets Africa feel. Again, the neutral color is pretty universal and is a must-have in the closet. $52

This romper is actually sold out and I can understand why. Asymmetrical top? Check. Interesting pattern? Check. Bold sash-tie? Check. Ahhh, this is heaven in a bundle of fabric, let me tell you. I want it. Soo, it would be great if Lulu's added more of these in their inventory. Btw, I'm a romper fiend so this is a need not just a want. $34

The classic romper in a beautiful purple color. It actually has a gold zipper too. The gold and purple color palette makes it more edgy and less mod. I like that. The gathering from the waist drapes into pockets effortlessly. A fine piece of work. $72

OVERALLS! Enough said. $35

I will update later (dresses!!!), but definitely check out Lulu's... their price range is American Apparel-like!

I've missed you...

Long time no blog! Since my last post, so much has happened! I have no clue where to begin. However, the thing that sticks in my mind most is the Oscars. I know it's a little late, but here is my top pick:

Jennifer Lopez was representing the block WELL March 7th. Her dress, a gorgeous blush tone, was whimsical, architectural and glamorous - all at the same time. And child, she knew how to work every angle. That girl was lookin' like a true stunner on the Red Carpet.

K, so this is a quick update. It's not really going to focus on a specific subject. However, I was inspired by Jennifer Lopez' blush-toned garb, and decided to create my own. Remember, this looks NOTHING like her dress, but I was inspired purely by the color.

Usually I would go out of my way and describe the patterns and detailing and nuances, but it's past midnight and I wanted to get this little blog update done. Soooo, good night. :) Enjoy.

P.S. Don't you love the Kate Spade ring? It's so lush!
P.P.S. That bag is to die for...Michael Kors! It'll set you back $1,000 dollars. :O

20 Questions Tag

I saw this dandy little tag on Ella's blogspot and really loved the questions. Have fun! I tag each of you. :)

1. What is your favorite item of clothing?
I really love jeans. Every type, too. White, dark, acid wash (yeah, I know. Tres 80's), skinny, bootcut, flared, boyfriend. They're all wonderful to me, really!

Balmain, btw. ^

2. What are your biggest obsessions?
I'm just gon' go right ahead and name ALL of them. Anderson Cooper, Cake Batter ice cream, Forever 21, Woodwinked eyeshadow from MAC, Viva Glam V lipglass, Big Brother, Trey Songz, Live with Regis & Kelly, The View, Nurse Jackie, True Blood, raspberry jam, airports, Manhattan, 100% fruit juice, Bradley Cooper, Big Brother, Weeds. Yeah.

3. Who inspires you?
I don't have very many inspirations, to tell you the truth. I sort of want to be myself, because I'm SO individualistic. I can honestly say every decision I make is for myself, and in my best interest. That's good in a way, but can also come back and bite me in the butt. It's vain, and selfish, too.

4. Who is your favorite designer and why?
I enjoy so many designers, that it would be ridiculous to now try and ramble on. I love Elie Tahari and Rebecca Taylor and Phillip Lim and Jay Godfrey and Elizabeth & James and Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen and Black Halo and Marchesa and Vera Wang and Herve Leger and Balmain and Derek Lam and Nanette Lepore and Lilly Pulitzer and ah. <3 The list don't end, sweetie. ;)

Elie Tahari ^

5. What is your favorite song ever?
Yes, as everyone says, I don't have a favorite. Truly, it changes every day. In fact, every hour. Insert winky face. I've been using him too much lately.

6. What is your favorite song right now?
Hands down, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. Love that song! :) I don't care who you are, you MUST admit that the tune is catchy as hell.

7. If you were a sweetie, what would you be?
I would be a Sour Patch Kid. Y'know what? Not EVEN a Sour Patch Kid. I would be a RED Sour Patch Kid. Rojo, rouge. Yahurrd?!

Hahahahaha, I love this.

8. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet - what words would you use to describe your rainbow?
Sour Patch Kid, orange juice, sunshine, tree leaves, ocean, Crayola, orchid.

9. What's your favorite film?
Again, it's hard to say. Even though I love The Wrestler, Matilda, Lion King, Wristcutters, Thirteen, The Notebook, No Country For Old Men, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Boyz in the Hood, Doubt, etc, my favorite movies of all time are LIFETIME. Yep, I'm being serious. You really can't beat Lifetime. Ever.

10. Who's your favorite actor?
I honestly don't know. I don't have a preference, tbh.

11. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
I would be in a wartorn nation. <3 I would lovelovelove to be helping in an extreme situation. I know you don't have to go to that end of the spectrum, but I want to.

12. What are your 3 favorite smells?
Bath and Body Works eau de toilettes, gasoline (weird, I know), the atmosphere after it rains. Yum. Earthy, hahaha.

13. What are your 3 favorite tastes?
I love Top Chef Masters, and this season was no exception. Now, I've never had his food, but I'm one hundred percent that it would be beyond delicious. Do you know who I'm talking about? YES. Rick Bayless. Take me to the Frontera Grill. Somebody? I also love the taste of raspberry jam and I like the taste of Taco Bell. LOLOLOL! I just spoke of THE premiere chef of Mexican cuisine in America and in the next sentence, shamelessly uttered Taco Bell. I really do like Taco Bell. So much for my palette, right?

14. What is your most treasured possession?
My bible, for sure. ;)

15. What did you always want to do/be when you grew up?
Not to be tacky or cliche, because I know a lot of people think they have the greatest style and that they're oh, so fashionable. I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was about 6. Yeah, I still have the sketches to prove it, bitchezzz! Lolol, and I wanted to name my clothing line, 'Fields of Glamour' F.O.G, babby.

16. If you were an ice-cream, what flavor would you be?
Cake batter, fo sho.

17. If someone made a short film of your life, who would play you?
I don't want to be haughty or meek, so I'm not going to answer.

18. What would your perfect afternoon consist of?
Peach lemon iced tea, or Pinkberry, or a banana-choc Vivanno and a black Amex card in my hand. We're going shoppping, dearies. Hahaha, JK. Not really. :|

19. If you were a flower, what would you be?
An orchid! I think they're beautiful. <3 I'm not much of a flower gal, but I love orchids.

20. Tell me a random thing - a quote, a line from a song, book, movie...
I adore Sarah Dessen. I can't explain adequately what it is about her writing, but it has a calming effect. Peaceful, connected, raw, simple, never contrived. Just beautiful. Love love love. The first book of hers I read was 'The Truth About Forever'...she's never really disappointed. Ergo, this is a quote from one of my favorites, 'This Lullaby'

"This lullaby is only a few words, a simple run of chords, quiet here in this spare room, but you can hear it, hear it, wherever you may go, even if I let you down, this lullaby plays on..."

It's so pretty, I can't even explain it. I love it so much, ah. <3 You probably think I'm a freak. Well, YOU read one of her books and see if you don't have the same reaction. It's visceral, I can't help it. :)

I tag all of you, btw. I had fun. Loads.

Phillip Lim Inspired

I'm crazy excited to write this blog, mainly because I l-o-v-e Phillip Lim. I love his palette, I love his versatility, I love the coexistence of masculinity and femininity and I love the little nuances and subtleties in his pieces. Beautiful! Here is the outfit I was inspired by. (to the right) I am enthralled by the purple tights, not nearly opaque, but close to it. They truly are a large focus piece in the ensemble and become the hue for which the other pieces are based. The gray-brown pleated skirt is cinched with a thin cafe belt, which ruches the rim and in turn, accentuates the waist. Love strikes me as the outfit concludes itself with the destroyed taupe v-neck and a heather gray cardigan, embellished with black sequins along the chest. I, of course, could never come close recreating this outfit, but tried by doing an updated version. My version (atop) features a blazer rather than a cardigan and a uses a statement top rather than a simple v-neck. The thin strapped blouse dangles with ruffles and is cut off by a bubble, a-line skirt, taupe yet finished by an emerald blue brow. The two looks do share the commonality of booties, strapped in an Oxford-meets-Mediterranean fashion. Next, I was inspired by a rougher albeit captivating look. Blanketed by a rolled-up navy blue blazer, a white blouse complete with a neck tie sash becomes anything but ordinary. Tiny leather shorts reinforce this statement as well as black translucent stockings. Last comes the black brogues with a new twist - gold colored rubber soles. My adaptation too features a blazer, albeit a gray one. Because it is baggy and loose-fitted, the TopShop blazer is nipped at the waist by a brown leather belt, its buckle pure gold.

Some occurances to note: tights, tiny shorts/skirts with loose fitted tops, muted palette (though not just muted, purple is prominent as well as ashy, dirty colors such as mousy browns, taupes, grays and navys)

I really enjoyed this task, and I hope you enjoy reading the blog. I do as best as I can to describe the pieces of art we call fashion. <3

Lannon Quarry & Designer Suits

'Twas ('twas? really, Glenda?) a rough weekend to fall back on, so a fun jour like today was well deserved. Bikini-clad and ready to swim, me and two of my dear friends hopped into the car and drove to Lannon Quarry, Wisconsin... The beach is nice; of the utmost quality. So needless to say, I was pretty excited. The water was clear and blue (for the most part) and the area was pretty secluded. The amount of people in this picture is no where near the amount of people there today. I'm pretty sure it was just us, an OG Italian family and two teenage lovebirds with cancer sticks in their hands. GRRRREAT~ Anyways, epic pictures were taken and hilarity ensued. It was a nice day. However, this blog is supposed to entail stories of my fashion hauls, heroes and favorites. I will somehow segway and connect the two. Uh... :l Ha ha. As I looked along the sand, there was no one truly 'fashionable'. The swim suits were lacking in style and/or originality and the cover-ups weren't any better. What must one expect at a Wisconsin beach, though? We weren't exactly in the Hamptons. :/ Here are some cute alternative cover ups from Gottex - shwanky, I must shay. :) I'm ridiculous, I know. The first is a pink tunic, to your right. It's light, and ethereal, spun with Italian silk. I love how delicate the material is, extremely airy and weightless. Tres chic with gold sandals and oversize Chanel sunglasses, oui? Yaaah, bish. The next is swirly, with ombre type patterns of blues, turquoises, whites and navies. Is that a word? Can you make navy plural? Ha, I do not know. Anyway, it's beautiful. :) Brushing the ankles and tieing just below the chest, it is again lightweight and goddess-like. Cosabella has wonderful swim suits also. I l-o-v-e them. Wow, I'm super retarded in this blog...I sound like an infomercial salesman. That's neither here nor there though. Ahh, as I was saying, one swim suit is a faux leopard print (obv.) bandeau top bikini. The top ties at the neck in halter fashion while the bottom is a miniature version of the boy short. Below is the bikini:
For lack of better words, I love it. & I can completely see myself wearing it. The price tag, however, is what really makes me happy. For a designer that is respected, one would expect this suit to be a couple hundred dollars. Nope! Only $106.00. But hold your horses, ladies and gentlemen, because the bandeau bathing suit is on sale - for nearly half the price. I can't believe you'd only pay $52.90. SO AMAZING. For more information on this suit, click this link to Saks. For information on the rest of the clothes, just check out saksfifthavenue.com

Ciao!
